Chapter 521: They’ve All Been to the Church
Chapter 521: They’ve All Been to the Church
Thea Shaw approached with the sound of police sirens.
The foul odor was detectable by Thea from several streets away.
People rushed out, standing by the roadside, looking around in panic.
They all suspected whether some kind of chemical weapon had leaked.
— This smell is simply overwhelming.
When Thea caught a whiff of the scent, she realized something was wrong. She headed towards Apple Hale’s neighborhood, seeing police cars and people outside the community covering their noses. From their scattered words, she learned that something had happened inside the neighborhood, some leakage, seemingly coming from Apple Hale’s residence.
It was Apple Hale’s husband and son; the police were waiting to put on protective gear before going in, as no one dared to enter directly.
Thea felt a vague shock.
The main thing was that the doctors who had previously examined Samuel Hayes said that patients with this illness died silently, with the scent growing stronger, but it hadn’t been heard of reaching several miles away.
She felt something was amiss.
But the smell was too choking; Thea went to the pharmacy to buy a mask but couldn’t block the stench, and it made her feel dizzy.
Thea was also afraid that this abnormal smell might be contagious, so she cherished her life and left the scene while reporting the news to Landon Ford.
Waiting for him to send someone to investigate.
When Thea returned near the hotel, the smell finally dissipated.
Thea was afraid she might have carried that scent on her, otherwise her fairy-like image would be ruined.
But upon returning to the hotel, no one gave her an odd look, so she knew it was fine.
The first thing she did upon returning to the room was to take a shower.
After finishing her shower, Thea received a call from Landon Ford.
"We’ve found something. Samuel Hayes did indeed visit St. Elara’s Cathedral."
Upon hearing this news, Thea felt invigorated, having a lead made things much easier, and then asked, "What did Samuel Hayes say?"
"He reported nothing unusual; visiting the church was for normal prayers, but he isn’t a believer. He entered just as part of a sightseeing route. However, he mentioned that it was the afternoon when he went inside, the church was quite dark and crowded. He sat down and listened to the priest recite a passage of the Bible; he didn’t hear the specific content clearly. He said he felt drowsy and wanted to sleep, but at the time he thought he was just worn out from walking around all day, and it was normal to feel fatigued when sitting down."
"Not long after, he left the church, without any issues the whole time, and departed from Fenmore afterward."
Thea questioned, "So does this mean there’s something wrong with the church?"
And quite evidently so.
If Samuel Hayes was subjected to something during this process, he might not even realize it.
Feeling drowsy might not just be from exhaustion; he could have really been affected by something, causing him to hallucinate, with even his memory being false.
If the church indeed did something, it would be normal for him not to feel it.
What piqued Thea’s curiosity now was whether only Samuel Hayes was affected or if everyone entering the church was.
Considering how many people visited the church daily, if they were all affected, hospitals would have noticed something amiss long ago.
And not just a few cases nationwide up to now.
She remembered Apple Hale also mentioned that she usually went to the church in the afternoon.
What difference is there between the afternoon and morning church sessions?
The key is, why do this, what exactly is the church doing?
Landon Ford whispered, "It’s quite clear, the church belongs to the Quinn Family. Looks like I’ll have to investigate the Quinn Family."
