Chapter 218 - 191: Why Do You Want to Become Strong?
Wang Yi soon discovered that the Super God Football field was just a large public venue. It seemed any resident of the territory could start a match there. As the Lord, other than the ability to move it, he didn’t seem to have any more privileges.
The stadium was definitely top-of-the-line, however. It was covered in real grass with an Automatic Repair function, and the stands were designed quite reasonably. It could probably accommodate over ten thousand spectators at once without any issue.
Wang Yi wandered around the football field by himself for nearly half an hour before Liu Qin and Yuan Yao finally arrived with some people. There were only four, all children: Zhang Xiaohu, Yang Xiaobao, Li Xian’Er, and Black Beans.
"My Lord, the other residents are either busy with work or watching the fights at the Octagonal Cage. This servant is of humble status and has little influence, so no one would listen to me. I was only able to bring these four!"
Yuan Yao said softly, her face flushing slightly as she seemed a little ashamed.
Liu Qin, on the other hand, said nothing. Her brow was slightly furrowed, and she maintained an aloof and distant expression.
"It was my oversight. People probably don’t recognize you yet. Bringing four people is already quite good. Once you’ve been by my side for a while, people will start listening to you!"
Wang Yi wasn’t bothered. He started a football match and had Zhang Xiaohu and the other three play an informal game.
As soon as the match began, a football and a virtual referee automatically appeared on the field.
The virtual referee was incorporeal and only provided commentary. Zhang Xiaohu and Yang Xiaobao were on one team, while Black Beans and Li Xian’Er were on the other. Yang Xiaobao and Black Beans were the goalkeepers, leaving Zhang Xiaohu and Li Xian’Er to play on the field.
The four children knew nothing about the rules of football. They were just kicking the ball around for fun, but they were doing so with great enthusiasm.
Zhang Xiaohu showed a lot of talent. When he and Li Xian’Er fought for the ball, she was completely outmatched. He would dribble down the field and frequently take shots, making Li Xian’Er so angry she stomped her feet in frustration.
However, Black Beans was a very competent goalkeeper.
This child was different from the other three. He was one of the Indigenous People Wang Yi had brought back from the World of Suffering. While Zhang Xiaohu and the others had suffered from hunger and poverty, they at least had families and were relatively cheerful and lively. Black Beans, having witnessed his parents’ brutal deaths, seemed much more reserved and possessed a solemnity far beyond his years.
But it was clear the boy was a hard worker.
Even now, playing football, he was extremely diligent. He didn’t smile or joke around. It didn’t look like he was playing a game so much as seriously completing a mission. With him as the goalkeeper, Zhang Xiaohu couldn’t get a single ball past him.
Wang Yi observed the four children from the sidelines for a long time. He rubbed his chin, feeling a wave of emotion.
Black Beans was just an ordinary person with poor Talent. The Talent Assessment Machine had only given him a score in the 60s. In contrast, Zhang Xiaohu and Yang Xiaobao had a Talent for Cultivation, while Li Xian’Er had a Talent for Magic and even a natural Pupil Technique.
Compared to Black Beans, the other three—Zhang Xiaohu, Yang Xiaobao, and Li Xian’Er—were practically children blessed by the heavens.
’Can Talent really decide everything...?’
Wang Yi shook his head. He decided to give Black Beans a chance. When the four children took a break, he walked over to Black Beans and asked, "Black Beans, do you want to become stronger?"
"I do!"
Black Beans replied with great determination, his eyes serious in a way that didn’t befit a child.
"Why do you want to become stronger?"
"I don’t know, but I just want to become stronger."
"How strong do you want to become?"
"I want to become as strong as you!"
"Hahaha!" Wang Yi clapped Black Beans on the shoulder. "I’ll give you the chance to become stronger. It’s up to you to seize it! Come find me at the Water Curtain Cave first thing tomorrow morning. I’ll give you something. Whether or not you can grasp this opportunity will depend on your future performance."
Upon hearing this, Black Beans said nothing and immediately kowtowed.
’This kid has potential,’ Wang Yi thought. He patted the boy’s shoulder once more and then left.
He had already decided to give Prototype No. 1 to Black Beans.
Prototype No. 1 was definitely a powerful Mecha, but Wang Yi no longer had any use for it. He had originally considered giving it to Jelena or Nangong Jin, but now he decided to hand it over to Black Beans. He wanted to see what kind of future this child could forge with a Mecha.
A moment later, Wang Yi arrived at the stands of the Octagonal Cage with his two handmaidens.
The Octagonal Cage was bustling with activity. Nangong Jin was continuously holding matches, with experts constantly taking the stage. Many residents were in the audience, and the sound of cheering was nonstop.
Wang Yi watched a few matches, but he soon lost interest when no new experts took the stage.
"Let’s go. Come with me to Eggshell Castle. I’ll introduce you to some people."
Wang Yi got up and led his two handmaidens toward Eggshell Castle.
Eggshell Castle was a different place now. After the village-wide assembly, Jelena had reorganized it, and it now served as Eggshell Village’s center of power. Zhang Dashan, Boss Li, and the others all worked here. All matters, large and small, converged here, and all orders were issued from this place. In the plaza outside, the Jade Jiaolong and Wooden Ox Puppets were parked, while the Rock Giant Scorpion and Hardworking Turtles rested quietly in a row. They served as vehicles...
People came and went in front of the castle, creating a bustling atmosphere.
As Wang Yi arrived outside the castle, Yang Qingxiu hurried forward to greet him.
A Secretariat had been established in Eggshell Castle, with Pei Xue as the newly appointed Secretary-General. Several new people had been hired, and Yang Qingxiu was fortunate enough to be selected. She was now a newcomer in the Secretariat, doing work that resembled a front-desk receptionist.
"Boss, you’re here! Are you looking for the young lady? Should I take you to her?"
Yang Qingxiu asked as she stepped forward, curiously sizing up Liu Qin and Yuan Yao. ’These two women are gorgeous,’ she thought. ’They definitely don’t look like Mortals.’
Wang Yi nodded. "I can find Little Nana myself. Let me introduce you—these are my personal handmaidens, Liu Qin and Yuan Yao. Why don’t you take them for a tour and introduce them to everyone?"
"O-Okay!"
Yang Qingxiu bowed in acknowledgment, a strange sense of disappointment welling up inside her. She felt deeply envious of Liu Qin and Yuan Yao.
Wang Yi had come to find Jelena about the Super God Football field, of course.
The Super God Football field was no simple thing; it could produce Seven-Colored Divine Artifacts, and in unlimited quantities! Now that it was built, it couldn’t just sit there empty. Regardless of whether anyone even liked football, they had to start organizing matches as soon as possible. It would be a waste not to farm the Supreme Jerseys and Super God Footballs.
Waiting for the residents to discover and grow to like football on their own would be far too slow. Wang Yi intended to have Jelena treat it as an official directive: form a few teams and hold some official matches.
When Jelena learned the reason for Wang Yi’s visit, she nodded. "We must hold the matches. The sooner we start accumulating Supreme Jerseys and Super God Footballs, the better. Here’s what we’ll do, Father. I’ll have the Giant Crab Sandfield and the Production Team each form a team. I’ll have Wadu send out a notice shortly, and we’ll hold the first match tonight. We’ll mobilize all the villagers to go and watch!"
"Excellent! With you handling things, I have nothing to worry about!"
’My little daughter is becoming more and more impressive,’ Wang Yi thought to himself. ’She’s far more mature than that reckless brother of hers. She’d have no problem being the Lord of the City.’
Jelena then updated Wang Yi on her work, mainly concerning the reorganization of various departments. For instance, the Production Team was now transitioning into a "Human Resources Center," where all newly recruited Refugees had to report first.
The Intelligence Department and the Foreign Affairs Department were also basically defunct for now. The head of the Intelligence Department, Pang Damao, was now exclusively focused on exploring and mapping the region. Jin Buhuan’s file had been removed from their records and was now classified as top secret; very few people knew his whereabouts.
And with Yang Wanli having gone to the World of Suffering for Cultivation, the Foreign Affairs Department had essentially become an office for the Fire Dragon Trading Team. Jelena placed great importance on the Fire Dragon Commerce Association and was thinking of hiring a few more people to re-establish the Foreign Affairs Department. She didn’t expect it to handle diplomacy; being responsible for recruiting Refugees would be enough.
Then there was the Secretariat, which was now the busiest department. The review of applicants for the Hundred Skills Academy and the screening of those who would traverse the Tower of Suffering both fell to them. On top of that, many orders needed to be relayed, processed, communicated, and even executed by the Secretariat.
In short, Jelena had one urgent request: she needed subordinates and talented people. And she needed them desperately—the more, the better!
As they talked, Wang Yi discovered that his young daughter’s mind was far more meticulous—and daring—than he had ever imagined.
He sensed that Jelena was very ambitious and had excellent executive skills. Having her manage Eggshell Village and handle daily affairs might actually be better than if he were to manage it himself.
After leaving Eggshell Castle, Wang Yi took his two handmaidens to the Water Curtain Cave and then proceeded to the Wukong Dojo.
After a session of "clouds and rain," Wang Yi discovered that the system truly hadn’t deceived him.
「At that moment, at Black Stone Mountain」
A rumbling little train slowly pulled to a stop at the shore.
The door opened, and Pang Damao stepped out of the first car.
An officer immediately came forward to receive him, his attitude exceedingly humble.
"What unit are you from, soldier?"
Pang Damao sized up the officer receiving him. The man was in his twenties, with a saber at his waist and a brand-new Constable Uniform. However, the uniform was different from the ones in Kaiyuan County and Qinghe County.
"Sir, this humble one is a new recruit in the Red Tiger Camp. I serve under Lord Lu Aqi!"
"Oh, Lord Lu, is it? Do you recognize me?"
"I do not, sir."
"Then why call me ’sir’ if you don’t recognize me?"
"Our Lord said that anyone who disembarks from the front of the Fire Dragon Vehicle is to be addressed as ’sir’!"
"Your Lord is a smart man! I am Pang Yuan, Director of the Eggshell Castle Intelligence Department. Do you know where Pei Zhi, the manager of the Fire Dragon Trading Team, is? Take me to him."
"Yes, yes, I do! He’s up on the mountain. Lord Pang, please follow me!"
The young officer respectfully led the way.
Pang Damao followed behind, in a very good mood. He noticed many people around and, out of curiosity, asked about them. He learned that Kaiyuan County had posted a notice, which led to a recent influx of Refugees to Black Stone Mountain, all of them hoping to join Eggshell Village.
With more people came more chaos, so Lu Aqi had recruited some new soldiers and stationed them at the docks to maintain order.
Pang Damao was aware of the effort to recruit Refugees. He had come here on orders, with two missions. The first was to come to Black Stone Mountain to process the incoming Refugees. The second was to travel to Jinyuan County and invite the young lady of the Zhao Family to visit Eggshell Village.
’Old Yang went off to his Cultivation, and now this refugee-processing job has fallen on my shoulders! And as for that young lady from the Zhao Family... I don’t know the first thing about Jinyuan County. How am I supposed to find her? I’d better go pay my respects to Old Pei and ask him for help.’
Pang Damao mused silently.
