Chapter 436: Is This How Rich People Play at Romance?
Chapter 436: Is This How Rich People Play at Romance?
Half an hour of isolation made Evelyn feel as if she had been cut off from the world for an eternity.
She was scared, anxious, and uneasy, desperately hoping for someone to rescue her. But the unknown waiting made her start to doubt whether anyone would really come to save her.
The door to the storeroom opened, and a man with yellow hair walked in, holding a phone in his hand.
The man roughly tore the tape off Evelyn’s mouth and said sharply, "Your husband wants to talk to you. Just tell him we haven’t tortured you, but if those billion dollars don’t arrive on time, we might just start the torture!"
"A billion!" Evelyn’s eyes widened in shock, "Are you guys crazy? Using me to blackmail my husband for a billion dollars!"
Hearing Evelyn’s voice, a very faint smile curved on Caden’s tense and serious face on the other end of the phone.
Just by hearing her voice, one could tell the kidnappers hadn’t done anything to her.
Evelyn glared at the kidnapper, then asked into the phone, "You... you really plan to... use a billion dollars to rescue me?"
A billion!
Evelyn felt that she couldn’t count that much money even in three days and nights.
Yet Caden agreed outright to use the money to rescue her?
An overwhelming sense of emotion surged within her.
They were arguing now, and she hadn’t shown him any kindness!
Whenever she got angry, she would often say things just to upset him.
Yet he didn’t hold it against her and was spending a billion to save her!
Caden sighed helplessly.
Did Evelyn think she wasn’t worth a billion?
"Remember you have to pay me back this money," Caden’s voice was calm, "A billion is no small amount."
"How can I pay it back!" Evelyn was flustered, "I couldn’t make a billion even if I worked 24 hours a day for my entire life without eating, drinking, or sleeping!"
"You have me!" Caden replied softly, half joking, half serious, "You are my wife, half of what I earn is yours, so you can pay it back."
"If you put it that way, doesn’t half of what you have now belong to me? This billion would be me rescuing myself then?" Evelyn asked softly.
"Such a silly thought." Caden laughed aloud, "Erin Morgan, you said you’re bad at math, but you figured this out pretty well at a time like this!"
"You said your money is half mine." Evelyn said with a tone full of grievance.
She just reflexively thought that way, she really had no intention of coveting his wealth!
"Yes! Of course it is! My portion is also yours, I don’t want anything, it’s all yours." Caden replied in a very doting tone, "So, Mrs. Lockwood, from the tone of your voice, does it sound like you’re not mad at me?"
"Enough of you two!" the kidnapper suddenly shouted, "Mrs. Lockwood, you’re kidnapped right now! Can’t you at least try to look a little scared? Can you respect me as the kidnapper? I didn’t bring you here for you two to talk love!"
Evelyn froze, her cheeks involuntarily flushing red.
Earlier, when she heard Caden’s voice, she had completely forgotten to feel scared, and entirely forgot she was currently kidnapped.
It seemed, in her subconscious, she knew that as long as Caden wanted to save her, she would surely be unharmed.
Caden was truly a godlike man!
"Shut up!" Caden’s voice was harsh, filled with intense anger, "I’m asking important questions! Don’t interrupt, I’ll throw in another hundred million!"
Listening to Caden, the kidnapper felt he was about to break down.
Was this really considered kidnapping?
Or... do rich people enjoy playing romance like this?
Only to hear Caden continue speaking, "Mrs. Lockwood, don’t be angry, I know it’s my fault, once I rescue you back home, let’s live happily, okay?"
