Chapter 1670
Chapter 1670
Next day, 8 AM.
Song Guanchao opened his eyes on the sofa.
He wasn’t foolish enough to keep an eye on President Xie.
He had great confidence in the knot he tied. With someone like President Xie, who never got his hands dirty, the chance of him breaking free was less than one in ten thousand.
After borrowing President Xie’s hygiene products to freshen up, Song Guanchao walked into the bathroom. As he ran the water, he noticed a pair of underwear hanging on the towel rack.
He was momentarily startled, and just then, footsteps sounded from upstairs as Jiang Yiren came down.
Song Guanchao quickly buckled his belt and came out: "Not sleeping a bit longer?"
"I’ve already slept for a long time." Jiang Yiren’s tone had a hint of resentment. Last night, lying in bed with her eyes open till midnight, she had thought Song Guanchao would sneak over for a tryst, but she thought too much.
As she was about to freshen up, she noticed Song Guanchao’s gaze lingering around her lower body.
She was puzzled for a moment, then suddenly recollected that he had just come out of the bathroom... and she immediately understood everything.
Blushing, she hurried into the bathroom and shut the door, hurriedly grabbing the underwear.
Hearing the rustling sounds, Song Guanchao chuckled, then returned to sit on the sofa.
President Xie was tied up like a dumpling, wriggling on the sofa like a dog: "Director Song, can you untie me first? I need to use the bathroom, I can’t hold it anymore."
"Hold on a bit longer." Song Guanchao casually took out his phone and called Lu Feng.
They had arrived in Pinghai City after 3 AM, and hadn’t slept much.
Upon receiving the call, they didn’t sleep further and immediately rushed over.
After a dozen minutes, Jiang Yiren also finished freshening up, came over to sit down, with a lingering blush on her face, she lowered her head without speaking.
After waiting for about another twenty minutes, there was a knock on the door outside.
Song Guanchao went over, looked through the peephole to see it was Lu Feng and others, and opened the door.
Lu Feng had brought over a dozen people, and Song Guanchao pointed at President Xie: "Leave two people to watch him, the others go to catch the people."
He had gotten the names of all senior people involved in the matter from President Xie yesterday.
He handed the list to Lu Feng, the details of the arrest didn’t require his input.
Lu Feng was capable on his own; there was no need for him to worry about such a small matter.
"After capturing them, take them directly back to Jiangzhou. I’m heading out now."
Song Guanchao got up to leave, and Jiang Yiren followed him out.
"You book a ticket to head back first; I’ll return after I’m done," Song Guanchao said without turning his head.
"I’m going with you to Feng City."
"What for?"
"To help you."
"You can’t help." This might be hurtful, but it was the truth.
This trip was to rescue Chairman Qiao, and he couldn’t be distracted by taking care of her.
"I can help you drive." Jiang Yiren tilted her head up, trying to show she was useful.
With the conversation at this point, refusing further would be quite hurtful.
"Alright, you drive then." Song Guanchao tossed her the keys.
Although Feng City was in another province, it wasn’t far from Pinghai, only a little over 400 kilometers in total.
He hadn’t slept well last night, and driving for several more hours would inevitably tire him out.
"Do you want to eat something first? And buy some snacks and drinks for the car?"
"Yes."
She had considered things quite thoroughly.
Quickly, they arrived at a noodle shop, filled their stomachs, then bought some snacks and drinks at a nearby supermarket, and set off.
Jiang Yiren didn’t have much driving experience, but she drove steadily.
Song Guanchao kept his eyes open for over half an hour. Once the car hit the highway, he closed his eyes to rest.
When he opened his eyes again, it was already 1 PM, and the car had driven into Feng City.
Feng City’s economy was about the same as Pinghai City’s, perhaps even slightly worse.
The city’s appearance looked rather chaotic, enough to show that the city’s governing leaders were incompetent.
City planning is rather basic, and failing in that justifies labeling the local top officials as worthless.
Song Guanchao turned on the navigation and searched for an address: "Go here."
This was the hotel where Chairman Qiao was reportedly staying.
A quarter of an hour later, the car stopped in the hotel’s parking lot.
This was a five-star hotel, and the parking lot was spacious.
Song Guanchao grabbed a bottle of mineral water and took a big gulp, then Jiang Yiren asked: "How will you rescue her?"
"Knock on the door."
"And then?"
"Take her away."
"That’s it?" Jiang Yiren gaped in astonishment. This plan... No, what plan is this?
It’s just too crude, isn’t it?
"Rescuing someone doesn’t need to be complicated. First confirm she’s there, then just go in and get her out."
"Then I’ll... wait for you downstairs."
"How much gas is left?"
"Half."
"Go refuel first."
"Okay." Jiang Yiren blushed slightly; her preparations were still lacking and needed Song Guanchao’s reminder.
Twenty minutes later, they refueled and returned to the parking lot.
Song Guanchao first set his phone to silent mode, then dialed her number: "Keep the call connected, don’t turn off the car, and wait for my message."
"Got it!" Jiang Yiren’s adrenaline was rising, feeling thrilled.
Song Guanchao put on a mask and cap, pushed open the door, and walked briskly toward the hotel.
He took the elevator to the 12th floor, found the linen room, and pulled out a housekeeping cart to room 1221.
He knocked on the door.
A moment later, footsteps could be heard from inside.
The door creaked open.
A man in his thirties stood at the door, gripping the doorknob, scrutinizing him.
This scene was so similar.
Back then, when Su Nanzhi was imprisoned, he disguised himself as a delivery man to knock on the door, and now he was disguised as hotel staff.
"Wasn’t it cleaned this morning?" The man frowned.
Song Guanchao, unfazed, apologetically said, "Sorry, sir, there was an issue with the linens we changed this morning, and they need to be replaced."
"An issue?" The man cursed, "Is your hotel run by idiots?"
"Terribly sorry, sir, to make amends, the hotel has prepared a 1000-yuan cash compensation for all guests."
Hearing about compensation, the man’s expression softened: "Now that’s more like it."
He turned around, leaving the door open, and Song Guanchao pushed the cart in.
It was a suite with a living room and two rooms.
Besides the man who opened the door, there was another man in his forties leaning on the sofa, playing a game while smoking.
Other than that, he saw no one else.
Song Guanchao was taking mental notes; he left the cart and picked up a pile of neatly folded sheets heading toward the rooms.
The first room was empty.
Pretending to change the sheets, he then picked up clean sheets and proceeded to the second room.
As he pushed open the door, the figure on the bed caught his eye.
It was a woman, seemingly startled by the door opening, she flinched slightly.
The woman was sitting curled up against the bed head, wrapped in a quilt with only her head exposed.
She pursed her lips, her eyes showed fear, but even more stubbornness.
It was Chairman Qiao.
Chairman Qiao looked at him warily, vaguely feeling the man before her looked familiar.
Suddenly, she saw the man wink at her.
Next, she saw him take off his mask.
Chairman Qiao had a good memory and immediately recognized him, it was Song Guanchao.
At first, she was dazed, this state lasted for two seconds, then her face beamed with joy, all the alertness in her eyes disappeared, replaced by delight and excitement.
"Song..."
"Shh!" Song Guanchao raised a finger to his lips signaling silence, and Chairman Qiao quickly covered her mouth, afraid to alert the people outside.
Song Guanchao walked over and whispered, "I’ll take care of the people outside first, then I’ll get you out."
This hopeful message made Chairman Qiao tremble with excitement.
She covered her mouth, nodding repeatedly.
