Chapter 83 Holding Out for 1 Hour
Chapter 83 Holding Out for 1 Hour
He didn't fire immediately; if he wanted to take the radio, the driver's last move would have given him away.
Now he was very careful, his body almost entirely blocked by the car body and seats, and from this angle, he was not confident that a single shot would be fatal.
Lu Ye held his breath and waited for him to continue probing forward.
Just then, the remaining personnel near the rear wheel of vehicle number one suddenly moved.
The man moved slowly, close to the vehicle, toward the machine gun position on the right.
His goal was clear: to regain control of the machine gun.
Lu Ye's heart sank: "Damn it. It seems they've coordinated things."
He had no choice but to abandon the driver and slightly adjust the muzzle of his gun to the right.
The remaining soldier had just placed his hand on the machine gun mount when his shoulder and half his neck were exposed through the shield.
"Thud." The bullet pierced through from the side.
The man's body went limp, and he slid off the side of the car.
[Kill 1 enemy soldier, reward 100 points!]
Lu Ye quickly pulled the scope back to the driver's seat. But it was too late.
The driver of vehicle number one has already retreated under the steering wheel.
The radio on the passenger side is missing.
Lu Ye's face darkened, and he cursed under his breath, "Damn it, he got it."
The gray wolf immediately asked, "What's going on?"
"The enemy has obtained the radio from the Humvee." Lu Ye stared at the exit of the woodland. "The pursuers in the woodland have stopped their attack and are probably reorganizing."
Gray Wolf: "Will they call for backup?"
"It can't be ruled out," Lu Ye said. "It could also be that they're communicating battlefield intelligence."
Female officer: "Your location has been exposed?"
"They can only deduce the general direction, not the precise location." Lu Ye paused for half a second, "But we can't fight like we did before."
Grey Wolf immediately ordered: "Everyone, repair the position, check the ammunition, and prepare for a long defense."
Lu Ye continued, "There's no more rushing at the edge of the woods for now. You guys hurry up and treat the wounded and replenish your ammunition."
Gray Wolf: "Understood."
-----------------
Inside the bunker.
The gray wolf leaned against the wall, took a couple of breaths, and then forced himself to stand up straight.
"Detonator, put the giant bear inside."
"Vasily, help him bandage his leg wound."
"Lynx, you'll have to deal with your shoulder yourself."
"Iron Hammer, check the PKM ammunition belt."
"Iron Eagle, contact the rear command center immediately."
"yes!"
Detonator placed the giant bear inside the bunker, against the wall.
The giant bear's face was pale, its lips were purple, and the temporary tourniquet on its leg was soaked with blood.
The female officer squatted down, tore open the giant bear's trouser leg, and glanced at the wound.
"A penetrating wound with significant bleeding."
Vasily immediately handed over a first-aid kit: "Hemostatic dressings!"
The female officer took the dressing and quickly covered the two wounds, pressing them firmly against the wounds. At the same time, she signaled Vasily to immediately apply a tourniquet to the groin to control the bleeding.
Detonator pressed down on his shoulder: "Bear with it, bear."
Vasily began applying a tourniquet, and the giant bear groaned, its fingers digging tightly into the ground.
The female officer didn't even look up: "Move up."
Vasily did as instructed.
The female officer continued, "Grey Wolf, he can't move any longer. We must retreat as soon as possible."
Gray Wolf glanced at the giant bear, then looked at Iron Eagle, who was checking the radio.
"I know."
Lynx sat beside him, wrapping a bandage around his shoulder with one hand.
Iron Hammer dragged the ammunition box captured from the bunker to the firing port and opened it for inspection.
"Three boxes of PKM ammunition belts, seven AK magazines, and four grenades left."
Gray Wolf nodded: "Distribute."
"Lynx, replenish the AK magazine."
"Detonator, you take care of the giant bear, and while you're at it, prepare some grenades."
"Iron Hammer, you and the officer take turns providing frontal firepower."
"Vasily, it's you behind me."
"Iron Eagle, is the command center accessible?"
Iron Eagle, wearing headphones, quickly adjusted the frequency band.
A few seconds later, intermittent static could be heard from the radio.
"Hunter calling Sky Eye, Hunter calling Sky Eye, please respond."
"Zzz... Sky Eye received. Hunter, report status."
Grey Wolf took the microphone.
"Sky Eye, this is Gray Wolf. The core area mission is complete, but the evacuation route has been blocked."
"Hawkeye killed, Bear seriously wounded, Lynx slightly wounded, and the rest of the crew are short of ammunition."
"We have captured the enemy bunker, and the coordinates have been uploaded."
"The original evacuation point is unreachable. Please re-establish the evacuation route and evacuation point."
There was a two-second silence on the radio.
Then, the voice from the command center became faster.
"Hunter, coordinates confirmed. The Seahawk-10 drone is turning toward your area."
"Currently, the main enemy forces around you are being held back by our simultaneous attacks on multiple fronts."
"Based on drone and electronic reconnaissance, there are approximately 30 to 40 mobile enemy troops in your vicinity, along with remnants of light vehicle firepower."
Grey Wolf: "We've already disabled two Humvees, but the woodland pursuers are still on the move."
Command Center: "Understood."
"We are opening up new evacuation points for you."
"The nearest available evacuation window is at least one hour away."
"You must hold your positions for at least one hour."
Gray Wolf frowned: "One hour?"
"Confirmed. Within one hour, we will suppress the eastern road with fire and arrange for a support team to open a temporary evacuation route."
"The Seahawk-10 will provide you with enemy situation alerts, but the terrain in your area is complex, and the drone's field of vision may be obstructed by woodlands."
Gray Wolf said in a deep voice, "Roger that. Hold out for one hour."
Command Center: "Attention, the enemy may attempt reconnaissance fire, sniper suppression, and flanking maneuvers. Maintain communication."
Gray Wolf: "Understood."
He put down the microphone and switched to the squad channel.
"Lu, did you hear me?"
Lu Ye's voice quickly came through: "I heard you."
Grey Wolf said, "Command center has ordered us to hold out for an hour. The Seahawk-10 will provide support, but the woodland obstructs the view, so we can't rely entirely on drones."
Lu Ye stared at the exit of the woodland: "Understood."
Gray Wolf: "You're under the most pressure."
"I know."
"Lu, if our location is exposed, prioritize survival."
Lu Ye said calmly, "Don't worry, I won't die."
The channel went silent for a moment.
Then, the female officer's voice rang out: "The giant bear's injuries are under control for now, but we can't let this drag on for long."
Lu Ye: "Then we absolutely mustn't let them get close."
After he finished speaking, he turned his attention back to the scope.
The Ukrainian troops in the woods halted their attack: "This is not normal."
They had just detected sniper fire in front of the bunker, but they did not continue to advance with numbers or fire blindly with machine guns.
It's too quiet.
Lu Ye slowly scanned the edge of the forest, the Hummer, and the ditches on both sides of the road.
There is no clear objective.
But suddenly his back tightened, and he felt an extremely abrupt palpitation.
It felt as if someone had pressed a cold, sharp blade against his forehead, and he would die in the next second.
Lu Ye's pupils constricted sharply: a warning from his [Danger Intuition].
Without any hesitation, he loosened the butt of his rifle and rolled to his right.
Almost the instant he left his original position.
"Snapped!"
A bullet hit the spot where he had just been lying prone.
A small piece of debris exploded off the edge of the rock.
The bullet hole landed less than 20 centimeters behind his head.
If he had been half a second slower, the bullet would have gone straight through his head.
